EDIT 6/26/2015 - Initial Link to meaning of the flag was broken/dead. Replaced it with a better link until I can find the same information on a different link.
EDIT 7/7/2015 - Inital Link is working via WebArchives.
EDIT 7/8/2015 - Found a pretty good article with inspiring words from a Confederate Flag Supporter and what he is going to do and what he thinks about the situation. Link is down below.
EDIT 1/24/2016 - Changed the layout of Artist Comments.
EDIT 1/24/2016 - Added my little warning of my opinion (seeing as some people don't read the freaking artist's comments!)

Possibly unfavorable opinion coming through. If you do not like this opinion, please feel free to leave!
If you do not like this opinion, too bad, because this person is not changing their opinion just because you don't like it.

Recently (more like yesterday for me //shot) there has been renewed controversy over the Confederate flag being flown in many parts of the south, or rather, being present at all. This has started in aftermath of the Charleston church shootings.
On June 20, several thousand people gathered in front of the South Carolina State House in protest. They claim the flag is racist and supports the oppression of black people.
Now, because of everyone's complaining and whining, there is this whole rush to 'censor the Confederate flag' so to speak. For example, Wal-MartAmazon.comSears Holding Corporation (which owns Sears and Kmart), and eBay all announced plans to stop selling merchandise with the Confederate flag on.

In all honesty, I find that to be crap.

For starters, this flag is a piece of history. Let me repeat; a piece of history
Designed by William Porcher Miles, the chairman of the Flag and Seal committee, this flag was rejected as the national flag in 1861. It was instead adopted as a battle flag by the Army of Northern Virginia under General Robert E. Lee. Not to mention the real name of this flag is actually 'the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia'. So it isn't exactly the Confederacy's national flag. And today even it is used as a symbol of Southern culture, not for the oppression of blacks. I mean, New England has a flag, but you don't see anyone saying "OMG DAT'S RACIST YOU RACIST MOTHAFUKA!!!!!!one!!!"

Secondly, not a lot of people care that the Confederate flag is flown.
A 2011 Pew Research poll revealed that 30 percent of Americans have a negative reaction when they see the Confederate flag displayed (The Daily Sentinel). Now that isn't really a lot of people. If anything, that is only three-tenths of the population of the entire United States. Hell, I'm from Pennsylvania and you don't see me bitching about it, even though I am not a Southerner.

Lastly, the flag itself does not depict or have any really shown symbolism of racism or black oppression.
Don't believe me?

I think you got this inversed; The Confederacy unquestionably fought for slavery and white supremacy. Idolizing the Confederacy is offensive to African-Americans.

Checkmate Confederates! *cues Battle Hymn of the Republic*
